Install your Car Seat with UAS/Latch

Cars built after September 2002 have the Universal Anchorage System (UAS/Latch). If your car is older than September 2002, you will use the seat belt.

Check the Car Owner’s Manual to see how to use the UAS/Latch system in your car. Many cars have the UAS/Latch anchors in the rear seats on the passenger side and driver side. In many cars the UAS/Latch anchors are not in the center seating positions. If you want to use the UAS/Latch system and the center seat in your car, check your car owner’s manual.

Rear-facing

Check that the UAS/Latch belt is routed through the rear-facing path on the car seat.

Connect UAS/Latch connectors on the car seat to the UAS/Latch anchors in the car.

Push down on the car seat. You can also use your knee to push the car seat into the car. Pull the UAS/Latch belt tight.

Check to see that the car seat is tight at the spot that it is anchored to the car. Place your hands on each side of car seat, and try to move the car seat side to side and front to back. The car seat should not move more than one inch (2.5 cm) side to side or front to back. If the car seat moves too much, push down on the car seat harder and pull the UAS/Latch belt tighter.

For the rear-facing car seats, it is okay to have movement at the top of the seat (where your baby’s head is). This is called rebounding and rear-facing car seats are designed to do this, but the car seat base should not move more than one inch (2.5 cm) where it is anchored to the car.

Forward Facing

The car seat will face the front of the car and be upright.

The UAS/Latch belt will be routed through the forward facing belt path.

Connect UAS/Latch connectors on the car seat to the UAS/Latch anchors in the car.

Push down on the car seat. You can also use your knee to push the car seat into the car. Pull the UAS/Latch belt tight.

Attach the tether strap to the tether bolt. Pull the tether strap tight.

If you are using the UAS/Latch system – do not also use the regular seat belt.
